IRC: Skoda UK to continue – despite losing Wilks

Skoda UK: We had some great results in 2010. Our entry in the IRC has generated a lot of excitement for the brand among our customers, retailers and staff and we're keen to continue that in 2011.
Skoda UK will contest the Intercontinental Rally Challenge next year, even though star driver Guy Wilks has defected to Peugeot.

In a statement to the press, on the same day Wilks was confirmed with Peugeot [see separate story - click here], Skoda UK revealed that next season it will operate as a 'satellite team' with 'official ties' to the Skoda Motorsport factory operation.

“We had some great results in 2010. Our entry in the IRC has generated a lot of excitement for the brand among our customers, retailers and staff and we're keen to continue that in 2011,” said Robert Hazelwood, Skoda UK Director.

“We are proud to be part of the Skoda Motorsport team, as they take the “double” in 2010, with unassailable leads in the Manufacturers' and Drivers' Championships and we're looking forward to a strong assault on the top in 2011.”

Skoda UK added that it intends to compete in 'up to ten rounds' of the 2011 Intercontinental Rally Challenge and that it will announce its driver line-up in the 'near future'.
