10 – Xavier Pons
Former Subaru and Citroen WRC man Xavier Pons secures tenth place in our top-ten, courtesy of his success in the maiden FIA Super 2000 World Rally Championship.
Pons staked his claim early on after taking back-to-back wins in Mexico and Jordan - his first two nominated events. The Spaniard then took runners-up spots in New Zealand and Portugal to further strengthen his position.
While he was only fifth in Germany and fourth in Spain, he concluded the year on a high with third on Rally GB – his fifth podium of the season.
That result ensured he was crowned the very first S-WRC champion, eleven points up on his closest rival, Patrik Sandell.
“This result is fantastic, especially to be the first S-WRC Champion,” Pons said. “It's been a very good season with two wins and two seconds.
“But in the middle of the season it was not easy for us, and the tarmac results were not good.
"Finally here in this rally... I just drove to finish. It's perfect for us to be Champions and great for the team.”
