6 – Mikko Hirvonen
BP Ford Abu Dhabi's Mikko Hirvonen had a tough season in 2010, there's no getting around that.
Furthermore after pushing Citroen's Sebastien Loeb so hard in 2009 and taking the title fight to the wire, only to lose out by one point, this year he was strangely off form.
However, he makes our top ten, in part because he is undoubtedly one of the 'main' players in the World Rally Championship, and also because of his top performance in Sweden.
His success there shows just what he can do, and it is also worth highlighting that he won the Intercontinental Rally Challenge opener as well, the famous Rallye Monte Carlo, to give the Fiesta S2000 its debut IRC win.
There weren't many other highlights for the Finn and he only managed one other podium (when he was third in Turkey). He may well have been a contender in Finland, but he had that massive crash on the opening day. Still he scored points more often than not and ended the season with 126 on the board.
“This was a tough season,” Mikko said after the finale in Wales. “But now I'm ready to work hard to try to get into the title fight again in 2011. Next year will be exciting with the new cars, and I can't wait.”
