Munchi's Ford World Rally Team man Federico Villagra clinched his national title for the ninth time last weekend.
Villagra did it in style too by winning the Rally Gran Premio de Unquillo, the final round in the 2010 Argentine Rally Championship, in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX. It was his sixth victory of the year.
“This is a crown that was really hard to get. The start of the year was difficult but after our first win of the year in Plaza Huincul we had excellent growth and a very good performance with the car,” he reflected.
“We added points throughout the season – with a lot of effort from a fantastic team. I'm just delighted to have won my home championship for the ninth year. It had become close – very few points separated myself and Gabriel Pozzo but it's been great to win the final rally of the championship and to retain the title.
“The roads were rough at this weekend's event as there has been some rain here recently. We had a minor problem with suspension on the first day but apart from that everything went fine.”
Villagra is now looking forward to 2011 and he will once again be in action in the World Rally Championship.
“I'll be returning to drive for Munchi's Ford World Rally Team and will be contesting nine WRC events,” he added.
“I'm hoping to have my first test in the Ford Fiesta RS WRC mid-February ahead of my first event in Mexico.”
