Ford has enjoyed a positive test of the new Fiesta RS WRC that will be used for the 2011 World Rally Championship season.

Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala completed more than 1200km of running in a development version of the car during a five-day test in Sweden, with Latvala at the wheel for the first two days before Hirvonen took over.

The Swedish test followed four days of running on gravel in Portugal earlier in the month with the next test of the car set to take place back in Sweden in the New Year.

"We can't speak too much about the car because of the embargo but we managed about 250 kilometres each day," technical director Christian Loriaux told the official WRC website. "There are a few things we would like to improve, which is always the case, but it was a positive test and the drivers are quite happy. The roads Jari used were not so good although they were better for Mikko.

"The problem we have, though, is knowing where we will be compared to our rivals and we won't get to know that until the first stage in Sweden. We can't compare the Fiesta to the Focus because they are completely different cars running to completely different regulations."
