Acropolis to have night stage

Acropolis Rally of Greece adds night test to mix for 2011.

The Acropolis Rally will include a night stage on day two of this year's event, it has been announced.

Confirmation came when organisers published the full Rally Guide 1 on their official website. The 20.97 kilometre-run through Nea Politia, SS13, is scheduled to start on Saturday night at 21.33 hours local time.

A statement from the organisers read:

“The competitive part of the rally will run over three days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with the ceremonial start returning to its roots and taking place on Thursday evening under the Rock of the Acropolis.

“Three of Friday's special stages will run in the area of Kallidromon Mt and competitors will move north towards some already familiar and famous stages.

“Being relatively far from the main Service Park in Loutraki a Remote Service Zone will be organised in the town of Kamena Vourla. This choice was essential in order for the thousands of fans of the Acropolis Rally, to spectate their favourite crews in special stages like Elatia, Eleftherohori and Rengini.

“On Saturday we will give the Acropolis Rally fans the opportunity to see the WRC stars compete in a 22 km night-time special stage. The rest of the day's programme remains the same as in 2009.

“Two stages, very close to Loutraki, will run twice on Sunday, while the last stage of the event, New Pissia, is ideal for a live televised Power Stage, 11 km long.”

The Acropolis Rally is the seventh round in this year World Rally Championship and is due to run from June 16-19.

Greece did not hold a round of the World Rally Championship last season, a victim of the FIA's rotation policy.
