FERM gets set for WRC debut

Dennis Kuipers gets set for his first outing with the FERM Power Tools World Rally Team in the season-opening Rally Sweden
The new FERM Power Tools World Rally Team will hope to impress in its debut WRC event this weekend when the 2011 season kicks off in Sweden.

The team will field a new Ford Fiesta RS WRC for Dutch driver Dennis Kuipers during the year ahead, with Kuipers having spent recent weeks testing in conditions similar to those expected on the stages this weekend.

“The Rally of Sweden is synonymous for sub-zero temperatures, snow-covered and ice-covered roads and high speed class tests,” he said. “That requires a specific approach.

"For my Scandinavian colleagues, driving on snow is second nature. But I come from the Netherlands. We only get snow occasionally, so I seek out other possibilities for training.”

Kuipers added that he was impressed with the potential of the new Fiesta, which is one of the first cars built to the new WRC regulations.

“The 1600 cc turbo motor provides constant power,” he said. "In combination with the outstanding road grip, M-Sport has produced a rally car with huge potential.”
