Peter van Merksteijn Jr has enjoyed his first test in the new Citroen DS3 WRC that he will use during the 2011 WRC season.
The Dutch driver will make his first outing of the year in Portugal later this month having delayed the start of his programme to enable Petter Solberg to take delivery of his new car in time for the season-opener in Sweden.
As a result, attest in France on Monday gave van Merksteijn Jr his first chance to drive the new Citroen and he managed more than 150km on a solid debut outing in the car.
“The DS3 WRC drives fantastic,” he said. “We drove a lot of kilometres in the car and they gave me all the opportunity to familiarise myself with this car.
“The car drives like a go-kart and I got the feeling that the car responds very well to what I want to do with it. We drove with various different setups during the day and I am very impressed with the car. It is a very professional team at Citroen Racing and I am returning home with a very positive feeling.”
Van Merksteijn, who is due to take part in ten events this season, will run under the van Merksteijn Motorsport banner.
