STOP PRESS: Loeb wins in Mexico

After only finishing sixth on the snow in Sweden last month, Sebastien Loeb bounced back this weekend and took the win in Mexico, his fifth on the trot in Leon.

Sebastien Loeb has taken the victory on Rally Mexico, the second round in the 2011 WRC.

Loeb had been locked in a fierce fight throughout the three-days with his team-mate Sebastien Ogier, but in the opening test today, while pushing to maintain his hold on P1, Ogier went off the road and broke his front left wheel. His exit left Loeb comfortably out front and the WRC record man could then pace himself to the end to give the DS3 WRC its first ever victory. It was Loeb's fifth win in succession in Leon.

Mikko Hirvonen meanwhile took the 'Power Stage' honours and the runners-up spot, followed by the sister factory Ford Abu Dhabi car of Jari-Matti Latvala, who was third in the overall rankings.

Petter Solberg recovered from mechanical woes in SS6 - which cost him around seven minutes and dropped him from third to 13th - to fight his way back up to fourth in his privately entered DS3 WRC.

Mads Ostberg was another to survive and came in fifth, with fellow M-Sport Stobart Ford man Henning Solberg sixth after power steering problems on Saturday and then more mechanical woes today.

Further back, Nasser Al-Attiyah claimed the SWRC class win and seventh place overall in his Ford Fiesta S2000. Fellow SWRC runners Martin Prokop and Juho Hanninen were eighth and ninth respectively, the former 13.5 seconds off Al-Attiyah.

Federico Villagra rounded out the top ten, taking advantage of the SupeRally to claim the final drivers' point.
