Al-Attiyah stripped of Rally Mexico SWRC success

Nasser Al-Attiyah has been excluded from the results of Rally Mexico following a post-event scrutineering failure - promoting fellow Fiesta S2000 driver Martin Prokop to SWRC class glory

Nasser Al-Attiyah has been stripped of his Rally Mexico SWRC class victory last weekend after his Ford Fiesta S2000 was found to be in breach of the technical regulations, handing glory instead to Martin Prokop.

Al-Attiyah had triumphed by 13.5 seconds from fellow Fiesta S2000 driver Prokop – and placed an excellent seventh overall – before post-event scrutineering checks found that the valve in the fuel cell ventilation system of the Qatari's car did not conform, resulting in his exclusion from the results following a subsequent hearing attended by BARWA World Rally Team management. No appeal was lodged against the ruling.

The disqualification means Prokop inherited the win in Mexico, from Juho Hänninen and Ott Tänak, with the Czech ace now holding a 14-point lead in the SWRC standings over Hänninen, and Tänak a further six markers in arrears in third.
