Rally Show confirms M-Sport Fiesta
Ford's new WRC 'baby', the Fiesta RS, will among the headline attractions at this year's Rally Show.
Rally Show organisers have confirmed that M-Sport's World Championship-leading Ford Fiesta RS will make its first 2011 UK appearance at Cornbury Park in May.
The car, which triumphed on its WRC debut in the hands of Mikko Hirvonen in Sweden last month, is at the vanguard of the latest world championship regulations, along with Citroen's DS3 and the soon-to-be-revealed Mini Countryman, and is certain to be a crowd-puller at the UK's annual celebration of rallying.
"I recently saw the new 1.6-litre turbo World Rally Cars in action at Rally Mexico - they sound better and, on some stages, were putting in faster times than the old two-litre turbo cars," commented Rally Show MD Malcolm Neill, "M-Sport is a long-time supporter of The Rally Show and the Fiesta is sure to be a highlight of the weekend. We are very excited that it is coming to Cornbury Park."
While the driver of the Fiesta will be revealed soon, M-Sport MD Malcolm Wilson admits that he is excited at the chance to show the car to the British public ahead of the UK's round of the WRC later this year.
"The Ford Fiesta RS WRC has had a dream start to 2011, with a podium clean sweep at the FIA World Rally Championship in Sweden, followed by a double podium at Rally Mexico," the Cumbrian noted, "We can't wait to bring it to The Rally Show at Cornbury Park, where visitors and rally fans will get a chance to see the car close up."
Other rally stars who will be in action at the show include Gwyndaf Evans, with former world champion Phil Mills as his co-driver, Jimmy McRae, Russell Brookes and Porsche legend Vic Elford. Local driver Simon Mauger is bringing his remarkable Mk2 Escort to the event, and stunt driver Terry Grant will also be entertaining the crowds as the Rally Show takes place for the first time at Cornbury Park, the family home of Lord and Lady Rotherwick.
"We are delighted to be hosting the Rally Show at Cornbury Park," Lady Rotherwick said, "For many years, we hosted the Network Q RAC Rally, and can't wait to bring live action motorsport to the estate once more. It will be a fabulous weekend for all the family."
