Villagra chases strong Portuguese finish

Federico Villagra targets more points for Munchi's Ford in Portugal
After gaining valuable seat time in his Ford Fiesta RS WRC in Mexico, Munchi's Ford driver Federico Villagra is keen to fight for more points when the WRC heads to Portugal next weekend.

Despite retiring on day one in Mexico, Villagra returned under Superally to complete the event and secure two championship points for himself and six for the Munchi's team on his first outing in the new Fiesta.

The 41-year-old now heads to Portugal for the third time keen to try and improve on his best finish of seventh back in 2009, although he will have to focus on the latest round of the domestic Argentine series this weekend prior to making the trip to Europe.

“I can't wait to get to Portugal,” he said. “We had a test there in February so the road conditions on the stages should be similar to what we experienced on the test. Mexico was a rally where we wanted get as many kilometres under our belt as possible. We experimented a lot with different ride-heights and set-ups, so it was very useful to return for the final two days after our retirement to learn as much as we could.

“The Fiesta RS WRC has got a really good chassis and it's very responsive – I'm looking forward to trying it out again next week. I've also got the first round of the Argentine Rally Championship this weekend so I must concentrate on that first and then I will push for a strong result in Portugal.”

To gain drivers' points all he has to do is bring the car home if Mexico is anything to go by. For manufacturers' points a last place finish would definitely earn him some points the way the system is now. Easy peasy.
