Latvala forced out

Disappointment for Jari-Matti Latvala as suspension woes bring his day - and his bid for victory in Argentina - to a premature end.

Ford Abu Dhabi's Jari-Matti Latvala has had to retire from the lead of the Rally Argentina due to a broken compression strut.

The Finn had been leading by 10.6 seconds post-SS12, when he hit a problem in the next stage, the 16.57 kilometre-run through Las Bajadas-Villa del Dique 2. Although he managed to get through that test and made temporary repairs, which allowed him to start SS14, he was later instructed to stop by his team on safety grounds.

Latvala's misfortune promotes Sebastien Ogier up into the lead, and the Frenchman now heads Petter Solberg by 21.1 seconds ahead of the final test of the leg. Mikko Hirvonen is third, 13.1 seconds up on a hard-charging Sebastien Loeb.

It is not yet known if Latvala will be able to re-start on Sunday under the SupeRally. If he does he should re-start in eighth.

More to follow later...

This guy gets no luck... ok sometimes his driving is a bit aggressive and it brings him undone... but he was doing brilliantly and to have mechanical issues is just typical of his luck
