Jan Kopecky says his victory on the Czech Republic championship-counting Agrotec Rally Hustopece will hand him a major boost when he resumes his Intercontinental Rally Challenge title bid on next week's Geko Ypres Rally.
Kopecky and co-driver Petr Stary took first place in their Skoda Motorsport Fabia Super 2000 by a margin of 37.4s following the two-day tarmac event last weekend.
Afterwards, the 29-year-old Czech ace said: “We are really pleased about this victory because nobody gave us anything for free. It was a great battle and an excellent preparation for the Ypres Rally where we want to fight for victory.”
Kopecky will compete in Belgium next week as the sole Skoda Motorsport representative after the Czech firm elected not to enter defending IRC champion Juho Hanninen on the demanding asphalt round.
However, Freddy Loix will drive a factory-assisted Fabia under the BFO Skoda Rally Team banner, while Andreas Mikkelsen's Skoda UK Motorsport entry also receives support from the Czech manufacturer.
