Auckland named as Rally NZ host

Rally New Zealand to be hosted in Auckland when it returns to the WRC schedule in 2012
Organisers of Rally New Zealand have confirmed that Auckland will again host the event when it returns to the World Rally Championship next year.

Auckland took over from Hamilton as host city for the latest running of the event in 2010 with the Viaduct Harbour again being used for the ceremonial start and finish and the Auckland Domain park hosting the superspecial stage.

“I'm confident the 2012 rally will build on the successes of the 2010 event and will be well supported by Aucklanders,” mayor Len Brown said. “Hosting major events such as this is critical if we are to achieve our ambition of being the world's most liveable city. Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development is one of the partners working with Rally New Zealand to ensure this event is world-class for competitors, their teams and spectators.

“The event provides another excellent opportunity to showcase Auckland as a popular visitor destination.”

Pity I can't be there for it this year...it was amazing last year. Rally New Zealand should be on the calendar every year. Just drop Italy or France. The WRC doesn't need them rallies.
