FERM Power Tools World Rally Team man Dennis Kuipers has admitted he never expected to do so well this year.
Kuipers stepped up from a Ford Fiesta S2000 car to compete in a WRC spec machine this season and his best result came in France, when he was fifth.
In total he finished in the top-ten seven times, including opening his account in only his third event with the Fiesta RS WRC in Portugal. In the end he scored 21 points and was classified 12th in the 2011 WRC drivers' championship.
“I was quite happy [with how this year went],” he said in an exclusive interview with Crash.net
. “We never expected these results.
“The main goal this year was to gain experience, to drive the rallies and to give the FERM Power Tools brand exposure in the market. We also, of course, were hoping to gain some good results, especially as we did a number of rounds in 2010 in the Fiesta S2000. But in the end we had some very good results and I was pleased with the performance.
“We hoped we would get some top-ten results [at the start of the year] and in the beginning you are really happy to get close to the top-ten.
“But once you have got some good results and been in the top-ten several times, I am sorry to say, you get a bit use to it. Of course you are happy with it. But you always want more and more. I always want to be getting better and better. When you are ninth or tenth now you are happy. But you also think it is possible to get a place higher.”
Kuipers has still to confirm his plans for 2012, but is hopeful he will be able to announce something soon.
“We are busy looking at different options and plans. At the moment we haven't decided yet what to do next year,” he continued. “But I expect in the coming weeks we should be able to decide.”To read the full interview with Dennis Kuipers and find out what he thinks of WRC 2, the official video game of the 2011 FIA World Rally Championship, which is out now for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, CLICK HERE NOW
