Mads Ostberg started and finished the 2011 WRC season very impressively, with second places in Sweden and Britain. Indeed in Sweden he challenged Ford factory driver Mikko Hirvonen for the victory and led for approximately half of the event.

He also took three fifth place finishes (in Mexico, Sardinia and Argentina), two sixths (in Finland and Spain) and a seventh place (in France).

He did have some blips though, and embarrassingly ripped a wheel off his Fiesta RS WRC in the opening SSS in Portugal, before being forced out on day 1 with gearbox problems. He also had mechanical issues in Jordan and Greece and crashed out in Germany due to a pace-note error.

Then there were financial problems that forced him to skip Rally Australia. Yet despite that he finished the season best of the rest after the 'big guns' with sixth place in the 2011 WRC Drivers' Championship and rightly he polled an average mark of 6.80 out of ten, leaving him eighth in your World Rally Driver of the Year vote.
