Your Top 10 World Rally Drivers' of the Year 2011: 6: Craig Breen (WILD CARD)

Nationality: Irish Car: Ford Fiesta R2 Championship position: 1st in WRC Academy Points: 111 Events: 6 (out of 13) Wins: 2 Podiums: 3 Points finishes: 6 Stage wins: 39

Craig Breen won the inaugural FIA WRC Academy title in the last stage of the very last rally following a dramatic end to the 2012 season.

Going into Rally GB, the Irishman was 20 points behind Egon Kaur and very much on the back-foot. However a brilliant performance in Wales, which saw him win 14 of the 17 stages, not only ensured he took the class honours, but also just enough bonus points to clinch the title. Indeed while both finished with 111 points overall, Breen took the title due to more stage wins in total over the year - 39 versus 15.

It was an incredible season for the Irishman and a great turnaround, after a tough two opening events in Portugal and Sardinia. Furthermore while he had to wait until Germany in the end to take his first Academy victory, after being just edged out by Kaur in Finland, Breen's speed was always impressive.

His form in the Academy class earned him a 'wild card' slot in our World Rally Driver of the Year poll and you gave him an average mark of 7.19 out of 10, which leaves him in sixth place overall.

So do you think that is a fair score for the 21-year-old? And how do you think he will get on in the SWRC in 2012? Share your opinions simply by clicking on the 'Post your comments' link below.
