Victory on Wales Rally GB capped off a strong end to the season for Jari-Matti Latvala, which saw him effectively finish as Ford's team leader, a position he will now fulfil proper in 2012, following Mikko Hirvonen's decision to join Citroen.

In total Latvala took 67 stage wins during the year - two more than Sebastien Loeb and the most of anyone runner.

He also notched up seven other podiums, two of which could easily have been wins. Indeed he missed out in Jordan by just 0.2 seconds - the closest margin in WRC history - and also he had to give up the victory in Australia to aid his team-mates ultimately unsuccessful title bid.

Jari-Matti proved to be a true team player and in addition to gifting Hirvonen a place in Oz, he also conceded positions in France and Spain too.

It was only a poor run of results in Sardinia, Argentina and Greece that put a stop to his own championship aspirations. In Sardinia, Jari's co-driver Miikka Anttila made a rare error and misread a pace-note, something that forced them to miss the opening day, while in Argentina Jari-Matti hit a rock in SS13, while seemingly on course for the win - 10 seconds up on Sebastien Ogier. Greece was also tough with issues on everyday meaning he did well to salvage points with ninth, and as for Germany later on, it's probably best not to mention, with the 26-year-old describing it as 'probably one of the most difficult WRC events I have ever had since I became a factory driver' in one of his exclusive post-event Flying Finn columns on Crash.net.

In the end, Latvala finished fourth in the 2011 WRC Drivers' Championship, but you have given him silver in our World Rally Driver of the Year vote 2011, with an average mark of 8.31 out of ten.

Jari in a McRae like way showed again this year, that on many events he was the far and away much faster than his competitors on a lot of stages this year! A bit of consistancy (not crashing) would put him as a serious contender for 2012. And with him not having to stop and wait for Hirvonen to pass him next year he will be rightly placed above him (hirvonen) as an outright championship contender. He will beat Solberg next year. Come on Ford pull your finger out!!!
