Patrik Sandell says he is eager to impress when he takes his place in the field for the second round of the World Rally Championship in Sweden.

Sandell, who has been chosen to represent the new Sweden World Rally Team this season, will line-up alongside Dani Sordo in the MINI line-up for the event in what will be his first outing in the John Cooper Works.

Stig Blomqvist, Bjorn Waldegard and Tomas Radstrom are amongst those backing Sandell through the new venture, with the 29-year-old eager to repay those who have supported him when he takes to the stages.

"This is a fantastic opportunity," he was quoted on the official WRC website. "Knowing that all my idols since I was just a kid are coming together like this to support me is incredible. I think this piece of the puzzle is what I need to take the final step into the WRC class.

"I'm really excited about competing in Sweden in the highest class against Loeb, Solberg, Hirvonen and the others. I feel ready to take the step and I'll certainly give them a match. I will not make anyone disappointed."

Richard Taylor from Prodrive, who will run Sandell's car in Sweden, said he felt Sandell would be a front-runner on the snow event.

"Since winning the JWRC title in 2006 Patrik has repeatedly shown himself to be a top level driver. It will be great to see him in a Prodrive MINI and even better that his first event with us will be in Sweden where we genuinely believe that Patrik has the chance of finishing close to the top of the leaderboard."
