The Colin McRae IRC Flat Out Trophy will continue to be awarded in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge in 2012 – and the rallying legend's father Jimmy McRae has spoken of his pride as a result.
Presented on each round of the IRC, the award was created midway through the 2010 season as part of an association between IRC promoter Eurosport Events and the Colin McRae Vision charity. It goes to the driver who best embodies the spirit of the late Scottish hero.
Jimmy McRae forms part of the award-judging panel along with the IRC's Jean-Pierre Nicolas and Eurosport's Gilbert Roy.
“I'm very happy about it. I'm also really proud of the fact that IRC wants to carry on with the association – it's been a great success,” said Jimmy. “A couple of the winners told me last year that winning the award was as good as winning the rally itself.
“They appreciate it and, I think, they really appreciated what Colin was about and what the award is about.”
