Ostberg moves up to third in standings

Mads Ostberg comes through a 'tricky event' to notch up another top-four result.

Mads Ostberg did 'exactly what he planned to do' in Greece and again came away with good points on the board.

The Ford privateer, who inherited the win in Portugal earlier this season, was running fifth near the end of the opening day, when he made a mistake in his Adapta WRT-run machine and slipped to eighth. Despite that though, and despite not being entirely happy with his Fiesta RS WRC car until the final three stages, he battled on and eventually finished fourth.

The result moves Ostberg up to a fantastic third in the drivers' championship, leaving him 'best of the rest' after the Citroen's of Sebastien Loeb and Mikko Hirvonen and interestingly, it places him ahead of both Ford works drivers - 7 points up Petter Solberg and 35 up on Jari-Matti Latvala, a great achievement considering he missed Rallye Monte Carlo.

Indeed the 24-year-old is on a roll at the moment and of the five WRC events he has done this season, he has finished fourth or better in every one. Furthermore if you include the three events from the end of 2011, he has now finished in the points in his last eight consecutive WRC rounds.

“Everything went as planned this afternoon,” Ostberg reflected. “We finally got some good feeling with the car after we changed the brake master cylinder in the last service. The car felt quite different, so maybe there was something with that all weekend because the car felt very strange from time to time and we had to make quite a few set-up changes – but now the car felt good.

“It has been a tricky event and the off on Friday was not good. But apart from that I think we have done exactly what we planned to do. The result in the end is not so bad at all really.”

“Our strategy paid off. The rally was rougher this year, but it worked better for us. I am quite happy because we showed we had a great strategy,” added the Norwegian, who will miss the next round in New Zealand due to budgetary reasons.

“I am really happy to be at the end. In Finland [my next WRC outing] we need to take more points,” he concluded.
