Manfred Stohl has lodged an entry to compete on Rally New Zealand later this month in a Ford Fiesta RS WRC car.
Stohl, who has competed in over 100 WRC events and who was last in action at the top level back in 2007, is hoping to compete under the Brazil World Rally Team banner, as usual driver Daniel Oliveira has opted not to do it.
The Brazil World Rally Team is run by the Austrian's own outfit, Stohl Racing.
“There are still some negotiations but if it goes ahead it will be a one-off,” Stohl told the official WRC site. “I have not driven the car before and the other drivers will be very competitive so it won't be easy but New Zealand is very much one of my favourites.”
Oliveira meanwhile will next be in action in Germany: “From the beginning Daniel decided he would not be doing New Zealand because he wants to concentrate on the rallies later in the season,” Stohl explained.
