Book of condolence for Roberts opened

Co-driver Gareth Roberts remembered with online book of condolence
A book of condolence for Welsh co-driver Gareth Roberts has been opened following his death on the latest round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge in Sicily at the weekend.

Roberts lost his life after an accident on the eighth stage of the event, when the Peugeot 207 S2000 he was sharing with regular partner Craig Breen collided with a barrier on the side of the road.

Despite the best efforts of medics who were on the scene almost immediately, Roberts succumbed to his injuries at the age of just 24.

As a mark of respect, a book on condolence has now been opened on Breen's website - CraigBreen.com - where fans can leave their own messages for Robert's family and friends.

Breen himself has also commented on the accident with an emotional tribute to his partner – nicknamed Ted - on Twitter, insisting that he has many 'treasured memories that will keep me strong'.

“No words to describe this feeling,” Breen wrote. “I have lost half of me. My little lifelong companion has left, and left behind a hole never to be filled.

“Difficult to describe how much he meant to us all, I'm so sorry. He knew me inside out, like no-one else. I miss you so much Ted.”
