Ogier: Top ten 'realistic' in Finland

Sebastien Ogier: In Finland, you've got to have one hundred per cent trust in the car. If you do, then there's no nicer rally on the calendar. I love driving there

Sebastien Ogier believes he should be able to get another top-ten on Rally Finland next week.

The Frenchman, who will compete in his Volkswagen Motorsport-run Skoda Fabia S2000 - as he has all year - missed the last event in New Zealand as the flyaway was not part of VW's programme, however, he is now looking forward to 'The Finnish Grand Prix'. Furthermore while he will be at a power disadvantage compared to the WRC cars, he is still eager to make sure he scores some points, as the squad continues to gather experience for its WRC entry with the Polo in 2013.

“In Finland, you've got to have one hundred per cent trust in the car. If you do, then there's no nicer rally on the calendar. I love driving there,” said Ogier, who in his last three WRC events has finished seventh overall. “I think with our Skoda a place among the top ten is realistic.

“We'll also benefit from the experiences we gathered there in the test with the Polo R WRC.”

IRC regular and 2011 IRC champion Andreas Mikkelsen meanwhile will drive the other car, the fourth time this year he has competed in the World Rally Championship under the Volkwagen banner. It will also be the fourth time he has taken in Rally Finland.

“My experience from last year will probably be helpful on some of the stages,” Mikkelsen added. “Spectacular jumps, blind corners and lots of trees – Finland is the quickest gravel rally on the calendar, which makes it so popular with the drivers. I'm especially looking forward to the famous, near-33-kilometre Ouninpohja special stage that is back on the calendar this year.

“All in all, we want to deliver a clean and consistently good rally and gather valuable findings for next year.”
