Neuville gets sets for Rally GB debut

Thierry Neuville: I know I have the turn of speed, including on stages that are totally new to me. But for this event, I'm not going to concern myself too much with my times...
Thierry Neuville will make his debut on Wales Rally GB this coming week and the Belgian has said his priority will be to get to the finish and avoid making any mistakes.

Neuville was pushing for a podium on the last event in Germany, when he went off on day two in Panzerplatte 1 and had to retire. Although he eventually finished 12th, re-starting on the final day under the Rally 2 rules, he has more modest targets for the tenth round of the 2012 WRC season, although he insists taking in new events is not something that fazes him.

“Perhaps the course will make me think of the Rally of Scotland, in which I have competed twice,” pondered the Citroen Junior World Rally Team pilot. “In any case, I'm not afraid of racing in places that are totally new to me.

“The purpose of this season is to provide me with experience and I'm always happy to take part in rallies that I could only watch on television a few years ago.

“My aim for the British round will be to make it to the finish without having to resort to the Rally2 rules.

“I know I have the turn of speed, including on stages that are totally new to me. But for this event, I'm not going to concern myself too much with my times, because my goal will really be to avoid making any mistakes.”

Neuville meanwhile took advantage of the break between Rallye Deutschland and Rally GB to attend the F1 2012 Belgian GP recently and he enjoyed the experience.

“I've had a chance to relax in the weeks following the Germany Rally. I didn't really get very far away from the world of motorsport though, as I was fortunate enough to be invited to the Belgian Formula 1 GP at Spa,” he continued.

“It was very enlightening to watch the Red Bull Racing team at work during a racing weekend.”
