Wilson keen for further outings

Matthew Wilson keen to secure a place in the field for Rally Spain after Welsh WRC outing
Matthew Wilson says he is eager to make sure that his return to the World Rally Championship in Wales isn't just a one-off.

The Briton made his first appearance since the season opener in Monte Carlo during last weekend's event, where he maintained his record of scoring points on every occasion he has tackled his home round on the calendar.

On the back of his eighth place finish in a Ford Fiesta WRC, Wilson revealed he was keen to now extend his return to also include the season finale in Spain as he works towards a full-time programme for next year.

“It depends on money, that's the long and short of it really,” he said. “We've got a few bits and pieces to work on and there are some options flying around. If we can do a couple of rallies in the second half of the year and back up to speed then we'd start next year in good shape when we hopefully get something sorted [for a full programme].”

Wilson also insisted he was happy with his performance on the Welsh stages, even though he had failed to better the fifth place finish he clinched last year.

“The result might not have been as good as last year but the performance was even better than last year and that's the encouraging thing,” he said. “It was nice to be back, I was really enjoying it.”

Only ONLY Hapless could come out with: "but the performance was even better than last year and that's the encouraging thing". He seems genuinely pleased that he finished over 6mins down on JML. Until the final day there were 5 identical cars in front of him - this on his 89th WRC and 9th Rally GB start!! Further, the wunderkid finished nearly 2 mins behind Neuville on his first Rally GB and first season in a WRC. And he wants more sponsorship for more! The only people who could possibly consider such a move are asleep.

Sad to see, really, when you have Henning - who is faster and charismatic - sitting out, people like Meeke fighting for a seat, and Juho Hanninen stuck in the IRC/ ERC championships. Not a fair place, the WRC.
