Citroen completes Welsh test

Citroen completes a test in Wales following the conclusion of the WRC season
Citroen has carried out two-days of testing in Wales in an effort to extract more performance from the DS3 WRC in slippery conditions.

Mikko Hirvonen and Sebastien Loeb both spent a day at the wheel of the car during the session in mid-Wales as the team, with technical director Xavier Mestelan-Pinon insisting the team had to improve on the performance it had shown in the Welsh forests earlier in the season.

“If you saw the results of our cars during GB and [in Spain] for the first day when it was very muddy and very slippery our car is not fast enough,” he said. “The philosophy of our set-up works on 80 per cent of the stages in the season but when it's slippery it's not very good.

“We must work on the set-up of the differential and the damper as well.”

Hirvonen, who will lead the Citroen team alongside the returning Dani Sordo next year, said he was pleased with the result of the test.

“We have been working to find a solution for the set-up in Wales,” he said. “The DS3 WRC is so agile that in some of the high-speed corners, we have been getting understeer. We found a good direction, not a solution. We are really pleased with the way we went.”
