Ostberg completes first test with Qatar M-Sport WRT

Mads Ostberg: It was a new experience for me being able to test with no limits

Mads Ostberg has declared himself happy following his first test this week with the Qatar M-Sport World Rally Team.

Ostberg, who will lead the former Ford works team next year, was in action over two days as he prepares for the 2013 season opening, Rallye Monte Carlo, which runs from January 15-20.

On Monday he ran in Lafarre, near Lalouvesc, completing 154 kilometres on tarmac roads which included sections of ice. He then switched to a test stage in Col de l'Echarasson, near Saint Jean en Royans, on Tuesday, notching up over 260 kilometres on snow.

“Okay I know the car [from this year] but it was a new experience for me being able to test with no limits,” Ostberg reflected, “and being able to work through what you needed to work through.

“I was happy with what we did but the conditions on Monday were quite difficult and it makes you realise when you lose the line [in a corner] you lose it properly. It means you have to drive with a bit more safety because you have a lot to do [to control the car] when you lose the line.”

Ostberg is now due to resume testing with the Fiesta RS WRC this Friday, near Mezilhac, south west of Rallye Monte Carlo's Valence base.

The Norwegian is then due to complete another pre-event test for Monte Carlo early in the New Year.

@cooper - I think you'll find that Ostberg was very consistent in 2012, not crashing! Let's keep an eye on this guy - he's got the material to challenge for the championship now that oeb's gone part-time :)
