23 December 2012

Your Top 10 World Rally Drivers of the Year 2012:
9: Petter Solberg

Nationality: Norwegian
Team: Ford World Rally Team
Car: Ford Fiesta RS WRC
Championship position: 5th

Events: 13 (out 13)
Wins: 0
Podiums: 5 (in total)
Points finishes: 9
Stage wins: 42
Power Stage wins: 3

Petter Solberg started 2012 strongly with a third place finish on the season opener in Monte Carlo.

He also took four other third places in Mexico, Portugal, New Zealand and Wales and in total won 42 stages, including three Power Stages.

Sadly however, he didn't manage to win an event, despite looking strong in Portugal, Argentina and Greece, and in the end made far too many mistakes with the second half of the season especially gruelling.

It is no surprise then that he is a relatively lowly ninth in our World Rally Driver of the Year 2012 vote and despite his immense popularity and massive fan base, he got an average mark of just 6.219 out of ten.

So do you think that score is about right? Share your opinions simply by clicking on the 'Post your comments' link below.

Also, don't forget to check back tomorrow to see who has been ranked in eighth place.
