Jan Kopecky's bid to make it two International Jännerrallye wins in succession has got off to the perfect start when he topped shakedown for the first event of the FIA European Rally Championship season – and then took the early lead on Friday's stages.
The Skoda driver led the way through the 1.99km stage at the wheel of his Fabia S2000 with a time of 1min 11.3secs, which put him 1.2secs clear of the Peugeot 207 of former WRC ace Francois Delecour – who is set to contest a number of ERC events this year.
Beppo Harrach was the top Austrian driver in third place at the wheel of his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX R4.
Kopecky then hit the front when the action got underway on Friday, holding a lead of 4.1secs after the opening six stages ahead of fellow Skoda driver Raimund Baumschlager.
The MINI John Cooper Works S2000 of Vaclav Pech is 1.7secs further back in third.
