Kosciuszko steps up with MINI

10 January 2013

Michal Kosciuszko will drive a MINI John Cooper Works WRC car in the World Rally Championship this year taking in all 13 events under the Lotos WRC Team banner, it has been announced.

Kosciuszko, who finished second in the Junior World Rally Championship in 2009, has competed in the Production World Rally Championship for the last two years in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X run by Ralliart Italy, finishing third in 2011 and fourth in 2012.

This year his car will be run by sister team, Motorsport Italia, which was responsible for the works WRC MINI Team Portugal squad last season, prior to BMW's decision to terminate its works involvement.

Looking to 2013, Motorsport Italia team manager Bruno di Pianto is confident the Pole can do well.

"It'll be an interesting step for Michal to move from a Mitsubishi to a MINI,” di Pianto remarked. “It is a big change from the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X to the MINI, but Michal has an idea what to expect.

“He competed in a MINI on his home event, Rally Poland in 2011, and he is also completing a 100km test this Friday in Italy in preparation for the first event [Rallye Monte Carlo].

"The change shouldn't be too hard – and we'll make it as easy as possible. [Yes], the cars are different and the programme is fuller, but whichever WRC series you are in the level of competition is high.”
