Petter Solberg has confirmed that he will return to action on Rally Sweden next month, albeit not alongside his former rivals in the World Rally Championship.
The Norwegian, who found himself without a drive in the WRC after Ford elected to withdraw its factory backing from the M-Sport team, will contest Historic Rally Sweden – which will run alongside the main WRC event.
Solberg will drive his MKII Ford Escort on the event, with wife Pernilla calling the pacenotes.
“After what I considered a very good shakedown of my new MKII Escort on Finnskogsvalsen as the Zero car, we've decided to take advantage of a wildcard entry,” he said. “With Pernilla as my co-driver, we will compete in the Historic Class in the Escort. We're very excited for this, as it was going to be quite hard for me to miss out on this event.
“We're doing it for fun, and for the fans. Expect a great show from us, and I hope to see plenty of you out on stage, as well as in the service park.”
The Historic Rally will see Solberg tackling stages including Vargasan, the Karlstad Super Special and the Hagfors Sprint.
