Sordo seeks to improve in Mexico

2 March 2013

Citroen's Dani Sordo is looking forward to 'getting on with' next week's Rally Mexico after a two-year break from the event.

The Spaniard, who last took part in the event in a MINI in 2011, said he recently tested the DS3 for the first time on gravel and hopes to translate his greater understanding of the car on the high altitude Mexican stages.

“I had my first outing in the DS3 WRC on gravel in testing a few days ago, which enabled me to get an idea of it's handling, although the weather conditions were closer to what you might expect in Great Britain than Mexico,” he said. “My understanding of how the car works is getting better all the time”.

Sordo also added that along with Argentina and Catalonia, he sees Mexico as another 'home' event thanks to the Spanish-speaking fan base.

“Along with Argentina and Catalonia, this is my third home rally!” he admitted. “I like the event, especially the second runs on the stages.”

The Spaniard did admit however that a clean run on Thursday's qualifying stage is crucial to success on the third event of the WRC calendar.

“[On the second run of stages], there is a lot more grip,” he said. “That means that the qualifying stage and the choice of starting positions for day one will therefore be very important.”
