Dani Sordo enjoyed the perfect warm-up to this weekend's Rally de Portugal with victory on the Fafe Rally Sprint.
In front of an estimated crowd of 100,000 fans who had lined the famous Fafe-Lameirinha stage, Sordo was able to beat Ford driver Mads Ostberg by just one second, with Martin Prokop – also in a Ford Fiesta RS WRC – taking third.
“The atmosphere was amazing and the sensation in the car really good,” Citroen ace Sordo said. “On the first pass, I was not completely confident with the set-up but by the final the car was perfect.
“The jump was crazy and we were so happy when we saw that we had finished in front of Mads. After a difficult Sweden and Mexico, that's good for us. Now let's try to do the same in Portugal!”
Andreas Mikkelsen was fifth for Volkswagen ahead of his competitive debut at the wheel of the Polo WRC this weekend, with former F1 racer Robert Kubica fifth in a Citroen DS3 RRC.
WRC points leader Sebastien Ogier had been due to contest the event but withdrew following illness to ensure he is at full fitness for the Portuguese rally.
