STOP PRESS: Loeb wins Rally Argentina

4 May 2013

Citroen's Sebastien Loeb has come out top on Rally Argentina to take his eighth win in succession on the event.

Loeb took over at the head of the pack on Friday morning, when early leader Sebastien Ogier skidded off the course on a long right-hand bend in SS7 and lost more than 40 seconds.

The nine-time World Rally champion then put in a charge on the repeat loop and built up an unassailable advantage, which allowed him to pace himself through the final leg. Loeb eventually won by 55 seconds.

It was another top performance from the Frenchman, and even more notable given he sat out the events in Mexico and Portugal. This year he is only doing four WRC events - this was his third appearance – as he is now focusing on his new career away from rallying.

Ogier meanwhile took the runners-up spot and while he was disappointed not to be able to take a fourth win on the trot, the result still allows him to increase his considerable lead in the Drivers' Championship.

Behind, Jari-Matti Latvala took third, after a final day duel with Evgeny Novikov. Latvala also took the Power Stage win.

Thierry Neuville and Mikko Hirvonen came in fifth and sixth, while Mads Ostberg recovered from his problems on day one and was seventh under Rally 2.

Andreas Mikkelsen just pipped Dani Sordo to take eighth in the final stage with Martin Prokop rounding out the top ten.
