Carlos Sainz misses out on his Rallycross debut after cancellation of X Games Barcelona event
Carlos Sainz missed out on the chance to make his Rallycross debut in Spain after heavy rain forced organisers of the X Games Barcelona to cancel the event on Sunday.

The former WRC title winner had been due to appear on track at the wheel of a Red Bull-backed Volkswagen Polo R being run by the Marklund Motorsport team.

Sainz had been involved with the development of the car but was prevented from trying it out in anger after persistent rain at the Olympic Stadium in Montjuïc Park led to the event being cancelled due to the condition of the circuit.

“I am sorry for everyone,” Sainz said in a message to fans. “Thank you for coming.”

Travis Pastrana and Ken Block were amongst the stars who should have lined up alongside Sainz for the event.
