Latvala wins Acropolis Rally

Jari-Matti Latvala triumphs in Greece with Dani Sordo second and Thierry Neuville third
Jari-Matti Latvala has won the Acropolis Rally of Greece to take his first victory with Volkswagen.

Latvala took the lead on Saturday morning, when Evgeny Novikov hit a rock in SS4 and broke a wheel, dropping the Russian down the order. Latvala then proceeded to build a good advantage and with over a minute in hand, he could take it relatively cautiously through the final leg. In the end he won by 1 minute 50 seconds.

Dani Sordo meanwhile took the runners-up spot for Citroen, after an intelligent drive in his DS3 WRC.

Behind, Thierry Neuville completed the podium, with Andreas Mikkelsen fourth and Nasser Al-Attiyah fifth. Mads Ostberg had to settle for sixth after problems in SS1, with Martin Prokop, Mikko Hirvonen and Novikov in positions 7 through to 9.

Sebastien Ogier rounded out the top-ten - and won the Power Stage – having had to re-start on Saturday under the Rally 2 regulations after a fuel pressure problem put him out in SS1.

Former Renault and BMW F1 driver Robert Kubica claimed the WRC2 class win – and eleventh place overall.
