Citroen boss Yves Matton is expecting big things from former F1 winner Robert Kubica when he returns to the FIA European Rally Championship on LOTOS 70th Rally Poland in September.

The Pole shone on the Acropolis Rally of Greece last weekend, taking a dominant win in the WRC2 class [see separate story - HERE].

Kubica has also done well on his three appearances in the ERC this year, leading all events he has started and scoring 16 fastest stage times in his Citroen DS3 Regional Rally Car.

While he has been particularly impressive on tarmac, Matton, however, reckons gravel surfaces are better suited to the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix victor.

"It's strange to say but maybe gravel is easier for him in the fact it is far away from what he was doing before," Matton explained. "When he's on tarmac due to the fact it's closer to Formula One he's too close to the limit without knowing and without being able to read perfectly the road. He's not 100 per cent on gravel at the moment but maybe it can be a little more easy."

LOTOS 70th Rally Poland, which was launched at the National Stadium Warsaw this week, takes place from 13-15 September.
