Solberg aims to shine in Hell

Petter Solberg seeks to make up for the disappointment of his retirement in Finland as the European Rallycross Championship heads to Hell.

Petter Solberg will seek to bounce back from the disappointment of a missed victory in Finland last weekend when the FIA European Rallycross Championship heads to Hell for his home event.

The former WRC title winner had made it through to the final at Kouvola and was leading the field when a broken bolt in the suspension left him without steering and forced him to retire.

With his Citroen DS3 fully repaired, Solberg will now hope to replicate the form he showed in Finland but with a better end result.

“I'd like to think that we've used up all the bad luck already this year, so it's only going to be good luck from now on!” he said. “But of course that's not true: mostly you make your own luck.

“We stayed on at Kouvola after the event to test, and we're confident now that we've solved the problem that forced us to retire there. We also did a lot of work on the engine before going to Finland, which not only cured the misfire that we had from the start of the year, but also brought us some more horsepower.

“You can see now that the car is really, really fast: just look at the lead we had in Finland before we went out.

“Most of all, I really can't wait to get to Hell and start enjoying it. I'm feeling really confident now. All we need is for things to go our way a little bit more – just small, tiny things – and I know we can do it. I promise you: this time we're going to be really flat-out!”
