Andreas Mikkelsen has revealed that Volkswagen has taken another step forward during its pre-event tests for next week's Rally d'Italia Sardegna.

VW's form since entering the WRC this season with the Polo R WRC has been quite remarkable, with the squad winning four of the six events, and Mikkelsen's latest comments will be a further cause for concern for their rivals at Citroen and M-Sport.

Looking to Sardinia, the VW junior driver added that he will be after another points' result to match what he accomplished in Portugal, Argentina and Greece.

"I had an excellent weekend in Greece. To win three special stages and pick up a point on the Power Stage is a very good result. Fourth place [overall] is also my best finish so far in the WRC. I just want to continue as I have been doing so far," Mikkelsen remarked ahead of round seven in the 2013 World Rally Championship.

"We have improved consistently since making our debut in the Polo R WRC in Portugal and as such, I am really looking forward to Sardinia.

"You can attack more on this event than in Greece, as the car is not subjected to such great strain.

"We have also taken another step forwards in terms of the set-up, thanks to the tests ahead of Rally d'Italia Sardegna, during which we primarily worked on the differential," he confirmed.
