Rally Italia Sardegna: Kubica takes second WRC2 win

Robert Kubica: It's never easy to win, but it has been good weekend
Former F1 winner Robert Kubica has taken another dominant WRC2 win after triumphing on Rally Italia Sardegna this weekend.

Kubica, who took his debut victory in the WRC at the start of this month in Greece, was again the man to beat in Sardinia, leading from start-to-finish in his Lotos Dynamic Rally Team-run Citroen DS3 RRC, and claiming 14 stage wins from a possible 16. In the end he beat his nearest rival, Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari, by more than four minutes.

The Pole also managed to finish in the top-ten overall, taking ninth place and two 'senior' WRC points.

“It's never easy to win, but it has been good weekend,” Kubica told the official WRC site. “We had some problems with visibility in the dust and an intercom problem but we never lost our concentration. Where we were not sure of our pace we took care to finish the rally.

“Actually, on today's first loop we were driving so carefully that we were not learning anything, so I tried to push some more in the afternoon – of course taking care not to do too much. I still have much to learn.”

Kubica now moves up to fourth in the FIA WRC2 Drivers' Championship standings with 58 points on the board - although he has only done three rounds, while the current leader in WRC2, Al-Kuwari, has done five and has scored 93 points.

“My main goal is still to learn about driving at this level," he added when asked about his WRC2 title prospects. "Obviously, I won't complain if I achieve good results! But above all, I take satisfaction from the personal progress I'm making.”

Kubica's next WRC outing will be Rally Finland and he knows it won't be easy: “It will be another huge challenge for me. I'm really looking forward to it though, because it is one of the most famous, renowned rallies. You need a lot of experience to race at this level, but I think that's even more the case in the country of a thousand lakes," he summed-up.
