The new Ford Fiesta R5 is to make its World Rally Championship debut in Finland after the first customer cars rolled out of the M-Sport factory in Cumbria.

Robert Barrable, Eyvind Brynildsen and Elfyn Evans are amongst the drivers currently listed to use the R5-spec car on the Jyv?skyl? event, with the latest Fiesta set to make its official competitive debut in the hands of a customer team later this month.

MM-Motorsport and Sykora Racing are the first teams to receive their cars with two per week set to now go to customers over the coming month.

More than 20 deposits have already been placed for the car, which was given a public debut on the Geko Ypres Rally, where Thierry Neuville ran ahead of the field as the VIP car.

Delivery of the first cars comes after the Fiesta R5 was officially homologated on 1 July.

"It is fantastic to see the first cars completed and on their way to the customers," M-Sport managing director Malcolm Wilson said. "This project has been two years in the making, and to see it all coming together is very satisfying indeed. Everyone involved - from the designers and engineers, to the technicians in the workshop - have done a great job and I think this new model is something the entire company can be proud of.

"Needless to say, I am very much looking forward to watching our customers' progress with the [Ford Fiesta] R5 - and hopefully securing victories around the globe."
