Sordo seeking strong points finish in Finland
Dani Sordo is hoping to haul in some big championship points for Citroën in Finland this weekend, which will also see the first WRC outing of the year for Kris Meeke and Chris Patterson.
Dani Sordo is looking forward to getting back in action again, after the WRC reconvenes in Finland following a five week holiday just after the half-way point of the 2013 season.
“It's the perfect way to get back into the swing of things and build your confidence after a few weeks out of action,” he said of the prospect of this weekend's upcoming iconic event.
Sordo is hoping to take advantage of a confidence and comfort on compressed gravel roads that's rare among central and southern European drivers, as he looks ahead to this weekend's Rally Finland.
"In Finland, I like the fast roads and the fact that the grip is fairly consistent," he said, recalling his two fourth-place finishes in previous year of competition in the 1000 Lakes event. "The difficulty lies in the difference in speed between the runs in recce and the actual race.
"Contrary to popular belief, there are almost no huge jumps here," he explained. "It's rather that there is a succession of small crests, which lift the car off the ground to a greater or lesser extent - and which are often followed by blind corners!"
Citroën Total Abu Dhabi WRT is counting on Sordo and his co-driver Carlos del Barrio for some much needed points for the team, which has been finding thins hard going since Sebastien Loeb started to phase out his WRC appearances.
"I hope to set times that are on the pace of the leading guys," Sordo offered when asked about his expectations for this weekend's event. "A podium finish would be a good result for Carlos and me.
“I'm really motivated for the second part of the championship, because we are about to start the series of rallies at which I feel most comfortable," he added.
Also turning out for Citroën this weekend are Kris Meeke and Chris Patterson, who will be determined to do well in their first WRC appearance since losing his seat with the MINI WRC Team.
"My main goal has always been to get back in the World Championship," said Meeke, who will be making his sixth start in Finland having competed here four times in a Super 1600 in the past, twice in a Citroën C2.
"Citroën Racing and Abu Dhabi Racing have undoubtedly given me the greatest opportunity of my career," said the Northern Irish racer. "This rally is exhilarating for drivers, but it's also one of the most difficult.
"I'll be looking to improve throughout the three days and finish in a strong position," he added.
