Juho Hanninen has become the latest front-runner to be forced out of Rally Finland after retiring during the Friday morning loop.

The Finn, recently announced as a Hyundai test driver, had been running well inside the top six when he hit a rock on SS9.

Although he made it to the end of the stage with the loss of just 30 seconds, the damage sustained to his Ford Fiesta was enough to force him out ahead of the following test.

"We went a bit wide on a left hand corner and we hit a rock," he said. "At first I thought I had a puncture but the driveshaft and arm is broken. It is impossible to fix it now.

"When you start to push, then things can happen. A stupid mistake but I didn't want to give up, I wanted to push more and I did. This time it cost a lot but it's rallying."

Hanninen will hope to return under Rally 2 on Saturday.
