Giandomenico Basso, a two-time winner of the FIA European Rally Championship, is targeting more ERC success with an entry on October's Rallye Sanremo in the planning stages.
Basso, who has taken 16 ERC wins since the championship was restructured in 2004, is hoping the appearance on the Italian tarmac contest, which also counts for domestic championship points, will lead to more ERC appearances the following season when he hopes to try an R5-specification car for size.
“Certainly my aim is to do Sanremo and Valais is a possibility after that,” said Basso. “Everything is still up in the air at the moment, even the car: if it's possible I'd like to try an R5, because that's going to be the car of the future, but the team I am with currently has just the S2000, so we'll have to see. Whichever car we end up it will be good to fight with the European regulars.”
Rallye Sanremo takes place from 10-12 October.
