Rallye Deutschland: Neuville will only get better, says Wilson

Malcolm Wilson: To rise up the ranks as quickly as he is doing is something I haven't seen in all the time I've been doing this job.
Qatar M-Sport team principal Malcolm Wilson has hailed Thierry Neuville after the Belgian's 'truly outstanding drive' on Rallye Deutschland.

Neuville was in contention for the win throughout the four-day event, and while he ultimately had to settle for the runners-up spot, after losing out to Dani Sordo in a nail-biting final stage decider, Wilson was still extremely impressed.

Indeed he believes the 25-year-old is a special talent and the fact he is currently second in the 2013 WRC Drivers' Championship, in only his second full year in the WRC, is evidence of that.

“It was another truly outstanding drive from Thierry,” said Wilson at the end of the ninth round in the 2013 World Rally Championship. “For him to be battling for victory right down to the wire on the final stage – and lying second in the championship – is an absolute dream which I didn't think was possible when we started the season back in Monte-Carlo.

“To rise up the ranks as quickly as he is doing is something I haven't seen in all the time I've been doing this job.”

“Second place is still an incredible result when you consider the level of experience he has – and he is only going to get better,” Wilson added.

Neuville has scored 109 points so far this season, and his podium in Germany was his fourth in succession – and his fifth of the year.

Im begining to sound like a broken record here, I totally agree with Malcolm, but i just hope he will stay with Malcolm and not get sucked into another Team by a Big Buck offer. Citroen and Hyundai will undoubtedly be chasing after Thierry for next season, but maybe Malcolm can persuade him to stay. Thierry isnt the only driver making Huge progress though, Young Elfyn Evans really impressed me on the weekend fighting an already impressive Robert Kubica. Maybe Elfyn will soon be drafted into the B Team for 2014 if he continues to Impress like this, then we will have another Brit to support again - in a British Team
