Local star Jan Kopecky put in a superb performance to secure victory on Sunday on the Barum Czech Rally Zlin.

Kopecky put in a flawless drive throughout the three-day event in his Skoda Fabia Super 2000 and in the process extended his lead in the 2013 FIA European Rally Championship standings.

"First of all, I'd like to thank the whole team - they did everything perfectly. I'm so happy. That is a big victory for Skoda and for us. The car was simply in perfect order," said the 31-year-old.

Kopecky won nine of the 15 stages and finished more than a minute up on Vaclav Pech, as he cruised home to his third victory in Barum after successes in 2009 and 2011.

"On Sunday, I drove with safety in mind; I didn't want to make the same mistakes from 2010, when I threw away victory," he added.

Kopecky has now picked up five race wins and a second place from six starts in the ERC, a brilliant run.

"That was an impressive performance from the Skoda works team in front of so many excited supporters," summed-up Dr Frank Welsch, the head of technical development at Skoda. "Special congratulations must go to Jan, who is now a three-time winner here at Barum."
