Evans ready to battle Kubica again in WRC2

2 October 2013

Elfyn Evans is looking forward to resuming battle with former F1 race winner Robert Kubica on Rallye de France this week.

The Welshman ended up scraping for glory throughout the event in Germany back in August and while the Qatar M-Sport man ultimately had to settle for the second in WRC2, he will be out to turn the tables in Alsace.

Last year Evans wrapped up the FIA WRC Academy Cup with victory on this event and he will now have another victory in mind, this time behind the wheel of his Ford Fiesta R5.

“Having put a good performance together in Germany, I'm hoping that we can show more of the same in France. We had a really good battle with Robert and we'll be looking to take the fight to him again,” said Evans, who recently starred at Rallyday 2013 in the UK.

Despite that though, Evans will have one eye on the heavens: “This is a rally I know reasonably well and I have done well here in the past – wrapping up the [FIA] WRC Academy with a win last year and piloting the [Ford] Fiesta R2 to a then record-breaking 16th place in 2011. However, a lot can depend on the weather,” he warned.

“If it rains, then the route can become extremely difficult. Although a lot has been done in recent years to prevent mud being dragged onto the racing line, it is inevitable in bad conditions.

“If it happens this year we will need to be extra vigilant as the surface can become treacherously slippery,” he concluded.
