WRC3 title-winner Sebastien Chardonnet will make the step up to WRC2 for the 2014 season after wrapping up the Citroen Top Driver title on Wales Rally GB.

The French driver led the way in the Citroen Top Driver standings going into the season finale in the Welsh forests with Keith Cronin the only person who stood a mathematical chance of beating him to the crown.

When Cronin went off the road on day two, Chardonnet only need to make it to the finish in order to take the prize and he duly took second behind Quentin Gilbert.

As such, the 25-year-old has now earned the right to use a Citroen DS3 R5 in WRC2 next year.

"It's fantastic!" he said. "It's really a dream come true, winning this competition. The DS3 R3 has been reliable and quick on all surfaces, and our team has done a great job.

"This result is down to our shared fighting spirit and determination. We now have a magnificent opportunity, and the goal will be the same in 2014."

Marek Nawarecki, Customer Racing Manager for Citroen Racing, said he was proud of the way in which the inaugural season of the Top Driver competition had panned out.

"This season has been absorbing and highly entertaining thanks to the high quality of the field entered in the Citroen Top Driver," he said. "The final outcome shows that Sebastien Chardonnet and Thibault de la Haye have real talent. Their performance is impressive. After claiming the WRC3 world championship, they have now won the Top Driver title.

"Quentin Gilbert and Renaud Jamoul have had a superb end to their year and showed their potential for the coming seasons. Keith Cronin and Marshall Clark lost out on the final round, but they have nothing to be ashamed about.
